The former Lord Mayors chosen Appeal was the Special Olympics held in Leicester in July 2009 and Councillor Sood raised an astonishing amount in excess of £100,000, during her term.
The Special Olympics raise awareness of the capabilities of people with learning disabilities, and give all those who take part the opportunity to achieve amazing things. The former Lord Mayor’s appeal helped city and county athletes with learning disabilities to be able to compete in the games, and to help celebrate and research their achievements.
